2014 Best Luxury 3-Row SUV for Families

The Acura MDX has been named the 2014 Best Luxury 3-Row SUV for Families in the U.S. News & World Report annual Best Cars for Families honors.  The all-new 7-passenger MDX beat formidable competition by delivering higher levels of comfort, reliability and interior space, and by earning excellent reviews from professional automotive writers.

“This award clearly demonstrates MDX is delivering on its family-friendly mission,” said Mike Accavitti, senior vice president, American Honda Motor, Co., Inc. “MDX satisfies unique performance and functional needs of the luxury SUV driver and passengers, be they kids or clients.”

In addition to providing outstanding luxury and performance, MDX offers family-friendly features such as a One-Touch Walk-In function that makes for effortless operation of the second-row seats and easy access to the third-row.  Rear passengers can enjoy an available entertainment system that includes an available ultra-wide 16.2-inch full WVGA screen and a High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) port for attaching high definition players and certain gaming consoles.

U.S. News considered 210 vehicles for the Best Cars for Families awards. The award methodology combines professional automotive reviews, safety and reliability ratings, seating and cargo volume and the availability of family-friendly features. Within each of the 19 automotive categories, the vehicle with the highest composite score is named the Best Car for Families in that category.

Acura’s hottest sellers, MDX luxury sport utility vehicle and RDX luxury crossover SUV,  have won U.S. News & World Report’s 2014 awards with MDX taking the “Best Luxury 3-Row Midsize SUV For The Money” award and RDX winning the “Best Luxury Compact SUV For The Money” category.”

The MDX and RDX continue to win accolades for their outstanding combination of exhilarating, performance, great fuel efficiency, and outstanding value on a luxury scale,” said Jeff Conrad, vice president and general manager of Acura Sales.  “With the five-passenger RDX and new seven-passenger MDX, Acura has unquestionably two of the most competitive luxury SUVs in the market.”

The “Best Cars for the Money” methodology combines quality and value data into a composite score. Within each of 21 award categories, the vehicle with the highest score is named the “Best Car for the Money” in that category. Quality is measured by the overall score a vehicle achieved in the U.S. News car rankings at the time the awards are published. The rankings, updated monthly at www.usnews.com/cars, compare cars on the basis of safety, reliability and a consensus of industry experts’ opinions. Value is measured by a combination of a vehicle’s five-year total cost of ownership and the average price paid for the vehicle at the time the awards are published.

2014 MDX Safety Features

If you didn’t already know, the 2014 MDX has some of the most advanced safety features of any luxury SUV. Here if a few you may not have been aware of but may keep you safe while driving.

Lane Departure Warning System – LDW

• At speeds of 45mph and above the LDW looks for painted lines, reflectors and other demarcations of lane division. If the MDX begins to exit a detected lane and the turn signal hasn’t been engaged, the system will flash the LDW indicator light on the instrument panel and display an amber lane departure message on the MID.

• It also sends a series of beeps alerting the driver to return to the lane or activate the turn signal.

 

Forward Collision Warning System – FCW

• This system detects vehicles directly in front of the car and if the distance to that vehicle is diminishing the system compares the vehicles current speed to determine if a collision can occur.

• To alert the driver to apply the brake pedal, FCW will issue a beeping sound and flash an amber BRAKE message in the MID, as well as project an amber warning image on the windshield.

 

Vehicle Stability Assist – VSA

• This system uses an array of sensors along with ABS and (on select models) SH-AWD to reduce dangers of oversteer and understeer.

• It continually monitors the vehicle speed, steering angle, lateral G Force and yaw rate.

• When oversteer or understeer is detected VSA reduces engine torque and applies the brakes to each wheel as needed to help stabilize the vehicle.
  

 

Advance Compatibility Engineering – ACE

• The ACE design utilizes a network of connected structured elements to distribute crash energy more evenly throughout the vehicle.

• New generation of ACE incorporates extra braces at the front corners to absorb and distribute impact energy from the narrow off-set collision in which a small portion at one side of the front end much absorb the collision forces.

• The outer braces are designed to transfer impact load toward the center of the frame where the energy can be distributed around the cabin more evenly.

• The NHTSA awarded the MDX with a 5 star rating on EVERY front and side impact test due to this amazing safety system!

The 2014 Acura MDX luxury sport utility vehicle received the 2014 AutoGuide.com Utility Vehicle of the Year Award.
